Anyone who has a terrier knows that they are varmint hunters!! They "go to ground"...and our little terror had a wonderful time today doing what he does best. (Remember, he was groomed yesterday to the tune of $50). All day today, whenever he went outside, he wanted to go to one particular area in the back yard...and stood there, turning his head, pointing, trying to figure out where the dang mole was....he had a pretty good idea. I don't know if he has some sort of sensors in his feet or if his hearing is just that good, but he found the right spot. I took him out around 4:30 to "potty" and the phone rang so I hooked him up to the outside leash and left him there. Went in, talked to the electrician for no more than 3 minutes and went back out to find my white dog with grass sticking out of his mouth and black dirt on his face. My he was proud of himself. And of course, then I noticed the HOLE!! In that short time, he had zeroed in on the right spot, dug into the ground and pulled out the grass with his teeth. AAAAAACXKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. So I got him inside and cleaned his face off. Gene came home about 20 minutes later and I had to show him what "his dog" did in the back yard. We laughed at that silly dog.... he went right back to the hole and put his face, snout down, into the hole and would not move. Gene had to pick him up and drag him out of there. Even pulling on his tail (which he hates) did not work. Managed to get some pictures of him and the hole... Sheesh!! The bad part of it is that Gene has been putting mole "food" into those holes but now he doesn't dare to it as His Highness will head right back to the hole.It was funny and actually interesting to see him "do his thing". He drank nearly a whole bowl of water when he came in - guess he needed to wash down the dirt! (Levi, not Gene).
We planned to fence the back yard for him, but am not sure now that that is a wise thing to do if we plan to keep any grass around!! Terriers!! Ya gotta love 'em.
